Peggy O. Ervin
Peggy Ervin currently volunteers as the docent for the Van Liew-Suydam (VLS) house. She is a former resident of the house and shares an intense love of her childhood home as well as for its preservation. She became involved in the Meadows Foundation during the external restoration of the VLS house. The project manager, Gary Randolph, a childhood friend, requested pictures and extended an invitation to visit the house. The visit renewed many happy memories. The invitation to the reopening preceded serving as docent to the house. The Middlebush farm (now the VLS house) holds extremely fond memories and she conveys her fondness and memories during the house tour. Peggy considers it an honor to share the house's history. Additionally, she is now involved in the internal restoration. She continues to work at her brother's farm in Cheesequake where she leads educational agricultural tours for school children. She creates seasonal displays for the market and also works in the
greenhouse. Her family is proud to be farmers through several generations of farmers. She believes farming to be an honorable profession, and professes that the history should be retold. It is through the tours at the Van Liew-Suydam house that Peggy Ervin continues to share the important history of the families and the farming tradition that established communities in central Jersey since colonists settled here.
Peggy volunteers as a Sunday School Teacher/Superintendent at DeBow's United Methodist Church in Jackson, and serves on other committees at the church. One recent addition to her activities includes the implementation of the food pantry.
Peggy has given school tours at the Thomas Warne Historical Museum in Old Bridge and volunteers with events at the Olde Yellow Meeting House in Millstone.
Professionally, Peggy is employed by a physician, where she is involved in transcription and billing.
