In Memoriam

In Memory of Betty K. Scott

In 1996 Betty began research on the Meadows Foundation properties at the request of Mark Else, then president of the Meadows. She completed the project in 1998. Betty joined the Meadows board in 1997, and served as Secretary for four years. From 2002–5 she chaired the Meadows’ committee that oversaw revision of the by-laws, and also volunteered on six other committees. Betty was an integral publicity committee member, responsible for writing and distributing press releases.

Besides the Meadows, Betty demonstrated her commitment to history through her membership involvement with the East Jersey Olde Towne Inc., the Metlar-Bodine House Museum and the Raritan Millstone Heritage Alliance, for which she served as its first Secretary. Beginning in 1994, she received a Certificate of Service annually from the Metlar-Bodine House Museum. In 1998, she was named “Member of the Year”— the museum’s highest honor.

“Patience and perseverance have a magical affect before which difficulties disappear and
obstacles vanish.” -John Quincy Adams

The Meadows Foundation extends our deepest sympathy to Betty’s family and friends. Her tragic death on April 11, 2006 will be mourned, but her life will be celebrated through her hard work, humor, and love. As a tribute to Betty who so loved history, The Meadows Foundation will post her research and other writings online. View Betty’s work, “The Last Bridge Tender”
